As Founder and Publisher, Lauren Abbott brings more than 15 years of experience in publishing, strategic marketing, communications, and business development to help brands expand their reach and strengthen their voice.

 

Lauren has built her career at the intersection of journalism, marketing, and creative strategy. Before launching Ford Abbott Media, she spent over a decade with the Memphis Business Journal, where she partnered with business leaders in the AEC and CRE industries to craft advertising and media solutions that drove measurable results. Her background also includes leadership roles in multimedia consulting, editorial management, and creative direction.

 

Today, she leads Ford Abbott Media, a publishing and media company that produces and manages The Horse Review and Hunt & Field Magazine. Both publications deliver trusted journalism to equestrian, outdoor, and sporting communities while offering brands innovative ways to reach highly engaged audiences.

Work Experience

June 2022 - Present

As Founder and Principal Strategist of Ford Abbott Media, Abbott leads a media company specializing in PR, marketing, and publishing for B2B businesses in the AEC and CRE industries, as well as equestrian and outdoor brands. She develops and oversee strategic communications, marketing campaigns, and creative initiatives that strengthen brand presence, expand networks, and drive measurable results. Additionally, Abbott guides the company’s publishing efforts, producing and managing The Horse Review and Hunt & Field Magazine, delivering trusted journalism and engaging content to niche audiences.

January 2011- June 2022

At the Memphis Business Journal, Abbott served from August 2015- June 2022 as the Senior Business Development Consultant, collaborating across editorial, audience, and advertising teams to grow MBJ's brand and expand its reach within the Memphis business community. Abbott focused on creating new revenue streams, cultivating relationships, and developing innovative business products and events. Her primary mission was to drive engagement across all of MBJ's platforms; including digital, print, research, and events, helping business readers grow their companies, advance their careers, and simplify their professional lives. Abbott was awarded two of American City Business Journal's highest honors while serving in this role. She was awarded as a Top Chairman's Club Producer in 2019 and American City's Eagle Award of Excellence in 2017. 

From January 2011- August 2015 Abbott served as a Multimedia Account Executive specializing in commercial real estate, design and build, hospitality, and professional services marketing. Abbott consulted advertising partners on ways to maximize ROI in print, digital, and event marketing. She managed yearly campaigns, sponsorships, budgets, and advertising schedules while providing strategic guidance on advertising placement, proposal development, marketing content, and creative design. Abbott's work ensured clients achieved measurable results while elevating their brand presence across multiple media platforms.

March 2008- January 2011

As Creative Director for the Mid-South Horse Review, Abbott led a comprehensive redesign of the monthly niche publication, transforming its visual identity and editorial focus to encompass all equine sports and the broader industry rather than individual disciplines. She directed all creative storytelling strategies, including cover art, photography, advertising design, and editorial layout, ensuring a cohesive and compelling reader experience. In addition to creative leadership, Abbott served as a writer covering regional equine sporting events, feature articles, and columns. Abbott launched and managed all social media campaigns, developing multiple points of engagement to grow and connect with reader.
